One year after the big success during the 2011 edition, this year  the SMUM Big Band is ready to return at the Blues To Bop. With the courtesy ofs directors of the School of Modern Music, George Meuwly and Guido Parini, it was possible to unite once again this group that will also host some guest artists.

The SMUM  Big Band is directed by Gabriele Comeglio, one of the most important jazz arrangers and directors, and is one of the most dynamic big bands in Ticino active in modern music.

The first Special Guest, Theo Crocker, made his first public appearance at a ceremony in memory of his grandfather and thanks to how his music touched people and what he felt within himself, he knew what he wanted to do with his life. "
At sixteen, Theo moved to Jacksonville, Florida and, after starting his career at the Ritz Theatre, he chose to attend the Oberlin Conservatory. Today, Theo divides his time between New York and Shanghai, China.

The second Special Guest is tenor and soprano saxophonist Alec Haavik. He has rasied in the New York City and after performing internationally in a board array of jazz and performance groups is now based in Shanghai, China. His urban, yet personable compositions fuse the multi-textured language of jazz with the raw energy of rock. The result is an array of tunes which cause listeners to both scream and reflect, laugh and grow quiet. This spectrum, made even wider by his new hometown, is captured on Alec's latest CD, Ye Shanghai. Raised in the New York City area, Alec has performed internationally in a broad array of jazz and performance groups.
