Mauro Ferrarese started as a musician and as a busker during the time he spent in New Orleans, inspired by the way he could “feel” the blues and Afro-American folk music along those legendary streets made familiar through jazz. His repertoire follows that of the major figures of country blues from the twenties and forties, those active in the Delta and Texas styles and includes themes from ragtime and spirituals. Since 1996 he has taken part in the Festival Blues in Macalle, the Vercelli Blues Festival, the Green Hill Blues Festival, the Tiferno Blues Festival, Blues In The Park in Gubbio, and is a much loved performer in clubs in both the Lake Como area and in the Southern Tirol where he now lives. In 2000 he issued his first self-produced CD, “Big Road Blues”, which documented a very personal interpretation of themes written almost a century ago. This was followed, in 2004 by “Blues an’ other stories”, a much more original musical outing featuring his considerable writing skills. Last year he took part in the first Italian Gospel Festival in Gallarate where he constructed a programme around the passionate gospel music and blues of the legendary Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Here at Blues to Bop he is to meet the long time partner of Sister Rosetta, Marie Knight, in what is sure to be a very interesting cultural-generational meeting. Diego Patron has partnered Mauro a number of times in what is proving to be a very fruitful and productive musical suo that creates ample space for both their talents as they delicate lead the blues down new contemporary avenues.
