Zach Prather was born in Chicago where he grew up listening to many of the artists who brought the Blues to Europe during the sixties.  After military service he formed his own band and, at the time, was playing in a style inspired by the Rolling Stones and other bands that made up the “British Invasion”.  He moved to Los Angeles in 1971 where he met guitarist Cash McCall who became an important influence on his music for the next fifteen years.  He also met the artists who he was to play with in the following years including Etta James, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Minnie Ripperton and Willie Dixon.  Today, Zach considers Willie Dixon the biggest influence on his life and on his music.  After Dixon’s death, Zach toured regularly with Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and during one of the twice yearly tours he met Luther Allison in Paris and moved there, staying in Allison’s group for almost four years.  For this year’s Blues to Bop Zach has added four musicians to his Blues Express in a tribute to the great Freddie King.  The Texas legend was chosen because Zach is convinced that only part of his music is known to blues fans so his interpretations will present the lesser known qualities of a giant.
