- Nora
Jean Bruso is an authentic representative of the
Chicago Blues. Born
in the Mississippi Delta area, the land that produced
Son House, Willie Brown, Robert Johnson and many
others, she grew up in a family that embraced church
music but at the same time ran a juke joint where
legends like her hero Howlin’ Wolf appeared.
She later moved to Chicago, following in the
footsteps of so many others who gave the world the
Blues, where she quickly came to the attention of
established artists such as Koko Taylor, Jimmy
Dawkins, Eddie Shaw e Willie Kent (who is also at
Blues to Bop this year).
- Her
new CD published this year, “Nora Jean Sings the
Blues” is selling well and has had lots of radio
play in America.
Jimmy Dawkins said that Nora’s voice was
among the most powerful he had ever heard in his life
and Nora Jean seems to devour her blues in a stile
that comes out of Etta James, Big Mama Thornton and
her beloved Howlin’ Wolf.
Her charismatic stage presence astounds
everyone who sees her and her concerts are emotional
experiences which move the crowds with that magic that
is unique to the tradition.
Blues to Bop is delighted that this fifteenth
edition is host to one of the ambassadors who is
taking the tradition into the future.

un'autentica protagonista della tradizione del Chicago
Blues. Nata nella regione del Delta del Mississippi, la medesima
zona di provenienza di Son House e Robert Johnson,
Nora è cresciuta in una famiglia della quale alcuni
membri frequentavano la chiesa e la musica gospel,
mentre un altro ramo era proprietario di un "Juke
Joint" che ospitava le leggende del blues
moderno, compreso il suo preferito, Howlin’ Wolf.
- Trasferitasi
a Chicago, ha seguito la strada migratoria di tutti
coloro che hanno creato il Chicago Blues del
dopoguerra e, pur essendo di una generazione piú
giovane, si è conquistata la stima di grandi
musicisti come Koko Taylor, Jimmy Dawkins, Eddie Shaw
e Willie Kent (pure presente a Lugano).
- Il
suo CD intitolato “Nora Jean Sings the Blues”,
pubblicato quest'anno, ha ottenuto grandi successi di
critica dappertutto, non solo nel mondo delle riviste
specializzate. Occorre tuttavia vederla sul palco per
apprezzare la sua stupenda voce, strumento che Jimmy
Dawkins inserisce tra le tre piú potenti mai udite in
tutta la sua vita! Nora Jean Bruso propone i suoi
blues in uno stile che mescola Etta James, Big Mama
Thornton e il suo amato Howlin’ Wolf. A Lugano Nora
Jean è accompagnata da
un "supergroup" creato per
l’occasione: Carl Weathersby e il suo trio, ampliato
da Dave Keyes ai keyboards e Stan Bronstein al sax
tenore. Attendiamo quindi dei momenti speciali per
coronare i quindici anni di Blues to Bop.
