il nostro festival, anche la cantante inglese Dana
Gillespie celebra un importante anniversario:
40 anni di carriera e 46 dischi pubblicati!
Una vita dedicata alla musica, anche se non sempre
nell'ambito del blues. Dana infatti iniziò nell'ambito
della musica folk ancora giovanissima, troppo giovane per
esibirsi nei locali londinesi che, per legge, chiedevano
un età minima di 18 anni mentre Dana ne aveva solo 15
(!). Dopo
varie iniziative, film e teatro compresi,
Dana entrò a far parte della corte di David Bowie,
allora all’altezza
della sua popolarità.
Trascorse così alcuni anni che oggi descrive come
“pazzia pura”. Terminato
bruscamente questo periodo, Dana decise che il campo del
blues offriva maggiori opportunità per una cantante non
piú adolescente. Alcuni decenni piú tardi Dana divenne una delle piú
apprezzate cantanti in Europa, una delle poche chiamate ad
effettuare tournée anche in America.
Accompagnata al Blues to Bop dai musicisti con cui
lavora regolarmente, la sua carismatica presenza sul palco
ritroverà il consenso del pubblico che, piú di una volta
ha già incontrato questa interprete. Inoltre, due membri
del gruppo, Julien Brunetaud e Fred P.G., si presenteranno
in duo in un programma dedicato a Django Reinhardt.

Blues to Bop, English singer Dana Gillespie celebrates an
anniversary this year:
40 years in the music business with 46 records
published! A
lifetime dedicated to music but not always to the Blues.
Dana chose folk music as the way into live music
and though only 15 she found regular work in pubs and
clubs that required a minimum age of 18 at the door.
After various exploits in film and theatre she
became a member of David Bowie’s inner circle when he
was at the height of his fame:
years she now describes as “sheer madness”.
When this pop empire imploded she decided that the
Blues afforded a sincere form of expression for a female
singer no longer of teenage appeal and has never looked
back. Regularly
featured at all the major European festivals Dana has also
received that rare accolade of booking from America:
praise indeed for a European singer.
Blues to Bop is delighted to welcome back this
great interpreter at such a marker in her career.
Listeners should also note that two members of the
band, Julien Brunetaud e Fred P.G., will play a set
dedicated to the great Django Reinhardt.
