Weathersby makes
a welcome return to Blues to Bop and is therefore presented
in a new way for the occasion. In fact, Carl will appear with the same trio he has in
Chicago when playing venues like “Buddy Guy’ Legends”,
but will also link up with Dave Keyes for a partnership that
was interrupted last year by a sudden death in the family.

Weathersby was born in Jackson, Mississippi but is much
younger than the other legends associated with the town.
Still a teenager he moved to Chicago where he grew up
listening to classic-era Motown and blues singers like
Little Milton and Albert King, all representatives of an
urban sound drenched in soul.
Like so many young Black men of his generation he
served in Vietnam but on his return was unable to settle
until Albert King, a friend of the family, hired him as a
guitar player in 1979.
In 1982, after playing with Little Milton, he joined
the acclaimed Sons of Blues and stayed with them for 15
years before deciding to concentrate on his solo career.
An intensely physical guitar player with a moving
singing style, Carl
Weathersby has also written some of the best
contemporary urban blues-soul songs. This year Carl will
also lend his brilliant sound to Norah Jane Bruso for what
promises to be another series of wonderful concerts.

Weathersby nacque
a Jackson, nel Mississippi, ed è molto più giovane degli
altri bluesmen legati alla città, come ad esempio Sonny Boy
Williamson. Ancora
adolescente si trasferisce a Chicago, dove ascolta i dischi
classici della Motown e di bluesmen come Albert King e
Little Milton, protagonisti di uno stile che risente di un
forte influsso soul. Come
numerosi giovani neri della sua generazione, ha prestato
servizio militare nel Vietnam, ma quando tornò dovette
adattarsi a svolgere lavori umili finchè nel 1979 Albert
King, che era un amico di famiglia, non lo ingaggiò come
chitarrista. Nel
1983, dopo aver suonato anche con Little Milton, diventò
membro dei Sons of Blues, complesso con cui rimase per 15
anni prima di imboccare la carriera di solista, grazie alla
quale ha già conquistato notevoli successi.
Chitarrista intenso e cantante accattivante, Carl
Weathersby è anche un abile compostitore di soul-blues
contemporanei. Per
questa edizione di Blues to Bop Carl torna a Lugano con il trio con il quale si
esibisce abitualmente nei locali piú famosi di Chicago,
tipo “Buddy Guy’s Legends”, e si unisce per
l’occasione con Dave
Keyes, al quale viene affidato anche il ruolo di
arrangiatore. Tutti
gli appassionati di Chicago Blues Guitar approfitteranno
dell’occasione di rivedere questo maestro di grande
bravura.
