Cantano nella tradizione della "House of God", in cui il suono urlante e lamentoso della chitarra elettrica steel occupa il ruolo principale. Da notare che per tre generazioni la famiglia Lee ha prodotto dei veri propri maestri di qeusto strumento. L'originalità del loro sound è garantita dal fatto che tutti sono attivi nella stessa chiesa da quando erano bambini. Il leader del gruppo, Alvin Lee, imposta i ritmi con la chitarra mentre i suoi fratelli cantano a piena voce. Keith Lee è dotato di una delle voci più potenti del panorama gospel, mentre il più giovane dei tre fratelli, Derrick, ha una voce più chiara con cui crea dei passaggi più soul. Roosevelt Collier, solo 18enne, ha imparato la chitarra pedal-steel dallo zio Glenn Lee a cui si deve anche il suono e lo stile del gruppo. Roosevelt si è già dimostrato degno erede della tradizione familiare. Due cugini formano la sezione ritmica: il batterista Earl Walker, specialista nel far ballare la sua congregazione (e quindi anche le nostre piazze) e "Little Alvin" Cordy, ottimo bassista funky. Il gospel dei Lee Boys è in stile pentecostale con l'aggiunta di tutti gli effetti eccitanti, quasi sconvolgenti della pedal-steel guitar, che il pubblico di Blues to Bop conosce meglio di quello di qualsiasi altro festival europeo grazie alla presenza di altri grandi della tradizione. Ricordiamo, ad esempio, the Cambell Brothers che, come the Lee Boys, hanno suonato i loro primi concerti a Lugano. The Lee Boys are a dynamic African-American family gospel group from the Miami, Florida area. They play and sing in the House of God tradition, where the moaning, screaming and crying sound of the electric steel guitar reins supreme. The Lee family boasts three generations of compelling steel guitarists. The band members have all been making music in church since they were seven or eight years of age. Group leader Alvin Lee lays down rhythms on guitar while his brothers sing straight from the heart. Keith belts out some of the most powerful gospel vocals to be heard anywhere. Smooth and soulful singing by Derrick, the youngest brother, further extends the groups range of expression. Roosevelt Collier, who is just 18, was taught 12-string pedal-steel guitar by his late uncle Glenn Lee, who established the band's sound and wrote many original songs for the group. Two more cousins power the rhythm section. Drummer Earl Walker will have you up and dancing while "Little Alvin" Cordy provides funky bass.
