The Big Jim Sullivan Quartet

A soli 17 anni era già un professionista e suonava con il leggendario rocker Marty Wilde. Durante gli anni '60 e '70 la sua capacità di esprimersi in qualsiasi stile, abilità che sarà in evidenza a Lugano, lo fece diventare uno dei session men inglesi più importanti e questo proprio nel periodo in cui la musica inglese dominava il mondo: ha contribuito a più di 1000 dischi che sono entrati nella hit parade! Nel 1969 è diventato direttore artistico di Tom Jones con cui ha girato il mondo diverse volte. Questa esperienza gli ha fornito una vasta quantità di spassosissimi anneddoti. Lasciato Tom Jones nel 1974, ha formato il proprio gruppo Angel con cui si è esibito con successo in tournée in America, per poi tornare in Europa un anno dopo e ricongiungersi con la sua band Tiger. Ha lavorato a lungo anche con James Last e Olivia Newton-John (dopo il successo di 'Grease'). Dopo tanti anni 'on the road' ha deciso di aprirsi a nuove attività e dedicarsi alla composizione di musica per film e TV. Attualmente si dichiara rinnovato e stimolato dal contatto 'live' anche se non disposto a tournée lunghe dopo i milioni di chilometri percorsi. Blues to Bop si reputa fortunato di avere l'opportunità di ascoltare questo straordinario musicista e il suo gruppo che presenteranno un vero caleidoscopio di stili. Big Jim Sullivan has had one of the most varied and prestigious careers of any artist to visit Blues to Bop. He started playing the guitar at 14 and within two years was playing professionally and giving lessons. At 17 he was one of the Rock 'n Roll legend Marty Wildes' Wildcats and played with Eddie Cochran on his ill-fated tour of England. During the '60s and '70s his ability to play almost any style of music made him one of the most sought after session men in the recording industry and he played on more than 1,000 chart successes. In 1969 Jim joined Tom Jones and toured the world many times. The band spent 8-9 months a year travelling and this gave Jim time to concentrate on his passion for classical guitar though he does not play pieces in concert. Jim left Tom Jones in 1974 and went to America where his metal band 'Angel' was a success but in 1975 he came back to play with his Uk band 'Tiger'. He later toured with artists as varied as the James Last Orchestra and Olivia Newton-John (after the success of 'Grease') but then, after so many years of touring he created a new career composing music for films and for TV advertising. Recently Jim has rediscovered the delights of playing for a live audience and Blues to Bop is happy to have the opportunity to hear his new group. They will thrill and delight as they pass effortlessly from style to style, running through the history of the music that forms the core of festival.
