Eric Scott and Thelma Ramsey
The Gospel Voices of Baltimore
Nonostante la sua relativamente giovane età, Eric Scott si è creato una carriera di pieno rispetto nella sua città di Baltimora, luogo che conta più di un centinaio di congregazioni afro-americane. Pastore musicale di Bethel, una della Chiese più grandi della città, Scott ha creato un gruppo di voci speciali per questo suo ritorno al festival. Fra queste voci spicca quella di Thelma Ramsey, moglie del vescovo Edmund Ramsey, da più di trent’anni musicista professionista. Tra la fine degli anni ‘50 e l’inizio dei ‘60 è stata solista in un quartetto formato dalle sue sorelle, che ha effettuato numerose tournée americane. Grande ammiratrice di Mahalia Jackson, la Ramsey è molto apprezzata per la passione e l’espressività con cui infiamma non solo gli spirituals tradizionali, ma anche i temi contemporanei.
 
 
Despite his relative youth Eric Scott already has an established reputation in his home city of Baltimore where there are more than hundred congregations all with choirs and musical directors.  His role as musical pastor of one of the biggest city churches has given him the opportunity to put together a very special group for this edition of Blues to Bop.  The soloist is Thelma Ramsey wife of Bishop Edmund Ramsey and one time leader of a very successful quartet, which also featured her sisters.  During the late fifties and early sixties she toured extensively with this group. A deep admirer of Mahalia Jackson, Thelma Ramsey is appreciated for the passion and fervour she brings to her interpretations of both classical spirituals and contemporary gospel songs.  Blues to Bop is proud to welcome this remarkable artist to Switzerland.
