Erja Lyytinen is an impressive slide guitar player and singer who has established herself on the international blues scene thanks to three recordings which won her accolades throughout Europe and America where she now tours extensively. She is a blues artist who does not limit herself to the classic repertory, preferring to transcend the usual limits in order to include her own compositions, jazz, pop and country.
She signed with Ruf records in 2005 and recorded a musical journey to the American roots of the blues in an appropriately titled CD “Pilgrimage”, a path that had begun in the small town of Kuopio, Finland when Erja began singing and playing the violin with her parents before switching to electric guitar. Her solo album for Ruf, “Dreamland Blues” is a gritty mix of electric blues featuring David and Kinney Kimbrough as well as her long-time musical partner Davide Floreno.
Then followed years of heavy touring which produced her present mix of hard-edged blues, modern R & B, plus her own compositions which have a more rounded and laid back tone.
Erja Lyytinen makes no secret of her aim to balance her artistic ambitions and at the same time be commercially successful: to dig deeper into the music and be popular at the same time. The Lugano crowd will be able to judge just how well this dynamic artist is succeeding with this ambitious project.
