RHYTHM ‘N BLUES / MAINSTREAM JAZZ

Bobby Watson, alto saxophone

Born in Kansas, Bobby Watson became a saxophonist and musical director with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and has established an international reputation as a solist of real authority, with an edgy blues infused sound which is one of the most instantly recognizable voices in modern jazz. After his stint with the Jazz Messengers he worked in Charlie Persip’s big band and co-founded the 29th Street Saxophone Quartet. Bobby is well known in Lugano and is making a welcome return to Blues to Bop where he will coach his students in the Kansas-Lugano Sextet and play with fellow Kansan Kelley Hunt. However, his fans know that his presence at Blues to Bop promises surprises so expect to hear him in the most unlikely places!
