Blues to Bop

For twenty-one years the Lugano Blues to Bop Festival has presented artists unknown outside of the Blues and “Roots Music” world to a non-specialist audience with such success that the event has become a unique occasion.

One essential factor has been the constant support and generosity of the sponsors, which allows each and every concert to be offered free to the public. This ensures that the audience is in no way “selected” by an entrance fee, and the result is that the centre of Lugano is transformed into a village where music is eaten, drunk and breathed for three days.

The decline in CD sales has made the bluesman and other “Roots Music” artists ever less visible, as they are considered unable to generate sufficient sales to justify expensive promotional campaigns by record companies with declining revenues. This is partly compensated by the development of cheap digital recording technologies and internet diffusion, but the hundreds of festivals that take place during the summer months now play an essential role in bringing these talented artists live to audiences.  It is here that Blues to Bop has established its own niche and prestigious reputation, loved as it is by both musicians and fans who for weeks look forward to the joyful frisson they create.
